The Lionsgate Television Group, now complemented by Starz’s television production operations, supplies nearly 90 shows to more than 40 different U.S. networks and is a leader in delivering premium content to cable, broadcast and streaming platforms alike. The Company has earned 187 Emmy nominations and 29 Emmy wins, driven by iconic series such as Mad Men, Weeds and Nurse Jackie. Lionsgate’s current roster of hits includes Orange is the New Black, Nashville, The Royals, Casual and the breakout series Greenleaf. With the Starz acquisition, the Company’s slate has expanded to include Outlander, Black Sails and the second highest-rated premium pay television series of 2016, Power. With its investment in leading reality producer Pilgrim Studios, combined with continued organic growth, Lionsgate is also building a strong nonfiction business alongside its premium scripted operations.
Driven by its 16,000-title film and television library, one of the biggest content catalogues in the world, Lionsgate has also built a premier home entertainment business that is an industry leader in box office-to-DVD, VOD and digital conversion. The Company is an innovator in partnering with digital platforms, incorporating new technologies and exploring windowing strategies to enrich the home entertainment experience it offers consumers.
Lionsgate continues to build a portfolio of channels driven by strong brands, deep content pipelines and its vast library. The flagship STARZ premium pay network is the second largest pay network in the U.S. and STARZENCORE reaches more than 31 million subscribers. The multiplatform EPIX channel, operated with Viacom and MGM, has become one of the most successful new pay television networks in the past 20 years. POP is a nationally distributed channel partnership with CBS that celebrates pop culture and continues to build a strong slate of original programming.
The Company is also connecting its content directly with consumers through a suite of OTT platforms that include Tribeca Shortlist and Comic-Con HQ along with the planned launches of the Laugh Out Loud comedy platform, featuring the original content of Kevin Hart, and the first Spanish-language premium streaming movie service for Hispanic moviegoers in the U.S. The Starz acquisition will enable Lionsgate to scale its OTT services alongside Starz’s own fast-growing OTT platform and a Starz app that has already attracted nearly a million subscribers.
Lionsgate continues to create alliances with a new generation of content companies to extend its reach into new lines of business designed to enhance current franchises while identifying exciting new properties. The Company is already planning theme park attractions, rides and exhibitions in the U.S., UK, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and China, and it continues to build its presence in video games and interactive ventures that leverage the breadth and depth of its IP. Lionsgate’s management team has been led by Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer and Vice Chairman Michael Burns since March 2000.
